Foreign Fulbright Program - Foreign Fulbright Student Information & Resources

Nomination and Selection

Fulbright applicants are reviewed in the candidates’ home countries by selection committees. IIE facilitates placements for Fulbright students across almost all academic disciplines, with the exception of certain fields that may not align with J-visa policies and regulations, at both the doctoral and master’s levels.

Foreign Fulbright Student Funding

Fulbright students are typically funded through a combination of grant funding, university support, and/or personal funds. However, please note that Fulbright funding varies widely and that each grant is individualized for a particular candidate. In many cases, Fulbright students are not “fully funded” by their grant, and any additional funding that can be provided by the university is always welcome and appreciated. If you have questions about a particular student’s Fulbright funding, please reach out to the IIE placement team.

IIE Application and Placement Process

If a Fulbright student is applying to your institution through IIE, the placement advisor will send a “Request for Admission” (RFA) email to the university along with the student’s Fulbright dossier. After all application decisions have been received, the student’s placement advisor will make a university placement recommendation, however, the final placement decision will be made by either the candidate or sponsor depending on the policy of the candidate’s home country.  If you are interested in receiving more Fulbright students at your university, we recommend contacting placement@iie.org to share program offerings and initiatives and being proactive about providing university financial support to Fulbright students.

Communication Protocol

For any questions about a particular Fulbright student’s application, please reach out to the student’s IIE placement advisor. If you are unsure about who the student’s IIE placement advisor is, please feel free to reach out to anyone on the IIE placement team or to placement@iie.org and we will be happy to connect you with the appropriate advisor.

Visa Issuance

Fulbright students working with IIE come to the United States on exchange visitor (J-1) visas. IIE handles the entire visa process for Fulbright students, meaning that the university does not typically need to take any action with respect to visa processing.
