Regional Program Managers answer student questions on applying at large at the May 16, 2007 Information Session.
Valerie: Hi, this is Valerie Hymas Tony: And Tony Claudino Valerie: And we’re here, and we want to announce the questions and answer session for the most recent U.S. student guidance session Tony: And so, if you couldn’t make it to any of the six locations that were having these info sessions, here’s a chance to listen to some of the Q & A we have for these sessions. Applicant: My question is related to affiliation. I’m out of school, and I’m wondering if I can still apply through my alma mater, and if there’s any advantage to do so. Walter: Uh, yes, you can, provided that the Fulbright Program Advisor at your alma mater works with alums. They are under no obligation to do so. They are obliged to work with their currently enrolled students, that said, most of them are more than happy to work with alums. If you choose to go that route, then you have to realize that you are going to be responsible for meeting the campus deadline, you have to make yourself available for the campus interview. So what you need to do is check with the advisor and see if they are willing to work with you on your application. If they say yes, for the purposes of the online application system you would apply just as if you are currently enrolled. The benefits to doing it this way? Well you certainly have someone who is going to work with you on your application, they’re going to be looking at your essays. And then you’re going to have the benefit of the campus interview, which in and of itself can help you fine tune your project and because of the nature of the narrative that they submit it’s like having an additional reference in the application. Does it guarantee success in and of itself? No. But you certainly have the benefit of working with someone and having them help you through the application and then the campus evaluation and narrative. Valerie: And that’s it for the questions some candidates have asked us during one of our guidance sessions. Please remember that if you have a question, feel free to email us, or contact us. Our information is all online. Tony: And, look for the next podcast. Thanks.
